We spoke with TOTM to ask what sets them apart and how they advocate for those living with endometriosis.

What inspired TOTM to create sustainable period care products?

We created TOTM to drive the positive change the industry has long needed. Period care products have traditionally been made with excessive plastic and synthetic ingredients like superabsorbent polymers (SAP), fragrances, and dyes. Our mission at TOTM has always been to champion period care products that are natural and gentle, using only high-quality, sustainable materials and free from harsh chemicals. What you use during your period matters, as these are products you'll rely on for many years. We're passionate about making it easier for people to switch to organic, natural period care options that don’t compromise on comfort or performance.

How does TOTM ensure its products are safe and suitable for people with sensitive conditions like endometriosis?

We’ve thoughtfully developed our period care range to use only high-quality, organic, and natural materials wherever possible. Over the years, we’ve introduced UK market-first changes, such as launching a double-woven organic cotton veil on our non-applicator tampons to completely prevent fibre shedding (which can cause irritation and even infections). We take pride in not cutting corners with our products and avoiding ingredients that don't align with our mission and values. This effort is noticed by our customers, as we receive positive reviews, especially around comfort, from those with sensitive skin or conditions who absolutely love our products. In fact, our pads are our best-selling products, and they’ve won awards. This is particularly encouraging given that they are made without super absorbent polymers (SAP), a common ingredient in many pads on the market, including conventional pads and some made with bamboo viscose.

Why was it important to use organic cotton and avoid chemicals in your products?

There are many reasons why we believe it’s important to be mindful of what you use during your period and opt for organic or natural options where possible. The main reason is that the vagina is a sensitive body part with a delicate pH balance, so it’s important to be cautious about the products you use in this area. Disrupting this pH balance can lead to irritation, discomfort, or, in some cases, conditions like thrush. It’s just something to be aware of, especially since so many pads today contain perfumes and fragrances, which can throw off this pH balance.

When you think about it, we use period care products regularly, and these products have direct contact with your body, especially tampons. Being aware of what they contain so you can make an informed decision is important, and if you can switch to organic or natural options, that’s even better, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Can you share how TOTM supports menstrual health education and advocacy?

We’re passionate about changing the narrative around periods to destigmatise the topic. We continually use our platform to raise awareness of menstrual matters and champion menstrual health education, whether that’s through campaigns such as our “Change it For Good” story or with the educational content we share around conditions such as PMDD and Endometriosis. We also pioneered a Period Positive Workplace Scheme in 2019 which advocates for menstrual health support in the workplace, including period dignity solutions and expert talks.

Since 2018, we’ve been proud to support Endometriosis UK and reached an incredible donation milestone of £119K at the end of last year. We’ve backed many of the important campaigns Endo UK has run over the years, including their efforts to get menstrual wellbeing added to the curriculum

What steps does TOTM take to make its operations more environmentally friendly?

As a B Corp, we make every effort to minimise our environmental impact by avoiding unnecessary waste and making decisions that align with our values. Our business and products are carbon neutral, as we take steps to reduce emissions wherever possible (for example, by using certified organic materials and manufacturing in Europe). We offset unavoidable emissions by planting trees in the UK with Climate Partner. All TOTM products are packaged in recycled cardboard boxes, which is important because it helps protect natural resources while packaging our organic products. What’s next for TOTM in terms of innovation and raising awareness about menstrual health?

We’re busy working on expanding our range! Right now, we’re developing two new products, one of which is launching very soon in March and is perfect for anyone with a heavier flow. Alongside these new products, we have lots of exciting partnerships and campaigns lined up for this year — so watch this space! 👀

A personal note from our co-founder Jemma on TOTM:

As someone living with both endometriosis and PCOS, I’m always on the lookout for period care products that are safe, reliable, and comfortable.
